Coming up

Our speakers are researchers, rehabbers, photographers, and neighbors who know a thing or two. Here's who's next.

How the evening goes

Same shape every month, so you'll know what you're walking into.

  1. 7:00pm

    A bird ID warm-up

A short lesson on telling one bird from another. Great if you're new, and a good refresher if you're not.

  2. Then

    Snacks and catching up

Light refreshments and a chance to say hello. Ask anyone what they've been seeing lately.

  3. Then

    A little chapter business

Upcoming outings, projects, and news, kept short. We promise.

  4. The main event

    The speaker

A talk about birds or conservation, with time for questions at the end.

We wrap up by 9pm.

2026 Flock Leader Award

Congratulations, Scott Marnoy!

Each year the Dr. Henry E. Childs, Jr. Flock Leader Award thanks someone for outstanding service to the chapter. This year it goes to Scott Marnoy, who joined the board in 2022 after retiring as a physician at Kaiser, and has been our field trip chair ever since.

A few of the things Scott has done for us:

  • Grown the field trip program, adding birding by kayak and pontoon boat in Newport's Back Bay, and Birding by Tram at California Botanic Garden.
  • Set up joint trips with the Friends of the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park.
  • Kept the field trip page up to date and spread the word on social media.
  • Written for The Chaparral Naturalist, and shared his bird photos in the newsletter and photo contests.

Thank you, Scott.
